Testimonials

wanted to express my gratitude for letting me attend this seminar. It certainly added many new things to my knowledge and I cannot thank you more for the gift of an excellent book by Catherine (So far I've gone through first few chapters but I can see that it's very informative and easy to understand).

Let me mention that I am thoroughly impressed by the wide range of services your company provide and will certainly hire some your services in a couple of months.

Hi Catherine:
I'd like to share how I believe the approach to resume formatting that gets attention in Calgary's O&G market as I learned in your seminar and book, "Want to Work in Oil and Gas?" has directly led to me landing a great technical sales position in a down market.
After attending your lunch time seminar on June 24, 2009 dealing with people entering into or transition within the Calgary O&G job market I took away a valuable lesson regarding the type of resume that gets attention in Calgary. The resume format stresses networking, volunteering and personal accomplishments. I re-did my resume in this manner and proceeded to network and apply for every position I could find. After 12 years on the drilling side focusing on engineering and operations I decided to make a move to technical sales. For several months I kept searching for opportunities but nothing so in desperation I applied to do temporary warehouse work to pay bills. I received a call from a temp agency and was asked to visit them. The staffing agent told me that I was over qualified for any position they had and in fact the ONLY reason I was contacted was that on my resume I listed the fact that I am a musician who performs on a regular basis. It turned out that the staffing agent was good friends with another musician and was interested in speaking with me and seeing what I was all about. After speaking for a while, based on my qualifications and experience he suggested that I contact a company in the area that could be a good fit for me. I thanked him for his time and suggestion and that night I sent a cover letter and resume to that company inquiring about opportunities. I received a call from the General Manager and after a few meetings was hired to join the sales team of Sphere Drilling Supplies. This position was NOT ADVERTISED but was the perfect opportunity for me. It goes to show that something seemingly unimportant as listing your accomplishments and interests on your resume can lead to a dream opportunity. Thank you Catherine for all of your help.
Best Wishes,

I met Catherine in her "How to get into Oil and Gas" seminar back in September 2008. Right from the first time we first met, I found Catherine to be someone with a very keen insight on people with an inherent ability to understand and see their underlying skills and strengths. Her insight is so finely tuned that she has the ability to pick out things you are good at that even you did not know. Over the last few months, Catherine has been a major influence on me and my career transition. With the help, guidance and most importantly, support of Catherine and her many amazing associates in the Prominent Service Group, I am equipped and motivated to follow through on a career transition many years in the making. Thanks to Catherine and her immense knowledge of the career industry, she guided me along my career change path and has been behind me every single step of the way. She is truly an amazing person with the gift of personal insight most people do not have. I know that my life is better for knowing Catherine and having her and the Prominent Service Group in my life. I cannot say enough about how much they have helped along the way. They have made the scary career transition not so overwhelming and because of their help, support, guidance and most of all caring, I am looking forward to a "fun" and rewarding career for many years to come. Thank you Catherine for the opportunity!

Three months ago, I was sitting in a Toronto office weighing my career options. Today, I have just finished a rewarding first week at a multi-national oil and gas service company. How did I do it? A lot of motivation, great advice, and positive thinking.

I first developed a relationship with Catherine Brownlee and Prominent Personnel while in Toronto. Her advice to me was simple: if I wanted to find a job in the energy sector, I had to be in Calgary. After examining my personal situation, life goals, and pin pointing the job I wanted, I bought into the idea and took the plunge.

Catherine’s book Want to Work in Oil & Gas? underlines the importance of networking. There was no doubt that this was the key to my success, as Calgary’s business community is filled with welcoming professionals who value personal relationships. Capitalizing on this realization was key. Face-to-face interaction built much stronger connections than did any email or phone call I made.

My advice to someone who is thinking about pursuing career in the energy field? Do it, don’t look back, and remember that successful business starts with a strong relationship. It is ultimately these relationships that can open doors and form the base of a successful and transformative experience.

It was a pleasure meeting Catherine yesterday afternoon at Right Management. I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation on "Want to work in Oil and Gas". I worked in the Oil & Gas Industry for 6 years in the early 1980's and I was glad to hear that my previous experience would be considered relevant. You also indicated that Procurement/Supply Management skills are transferable into the Oil and Gas Industry. I have worked in Procurement/Supply Management for the last 16+ years. Due to the downturn in the economy, I understand that my current job search will be a challenging one. However, with my previous Oil & Gas and rocurement/Supply Management experience, I have transportable skills. Thank you for inspiring me.

My experience with Catherine Brownlee at Prominent Personnel has been excellent. Her knowledge of the inner workings of the oil and gas industry and what it takes to find new opportunities is second to none. Prominent Personnel’s approach to helping people through networking events and transition into the industry is truly unique. Either through seminars related to employment in the oil and gas industry, or one on one Catherine takes a real interest in working with people.

Within hours of reading it, “Want To Work In Oil & Gas?” provided enough clarity, energy and industry savvy to take its place as an invaluable search tool for the two third year undergrad students in our family. Their goals are now to find O&G summer work in 2009, to graduate next year and quickly return home to Alberta to pursue careers in Oil and Gas. Having met Catherine Brownlee only once, they both agreed that the author’s infectious enthusiasm and broad industry knowledge leap from every page.

This was the first book I read in 2009 – on January 3rd ! My only regret is that Catherine Brownlee’s refreshingly clear guide was not available to me when I moved to Calgary in 1990. Like today, those were also difficult times and it could have helped so many people to focus our searches to much better effect. No wonder this book’s a best seller!

Rarely in my sales/management/business past have I come across someone so knowledgeable, passionate, talented and direct in speaking. The information that you provided in the seminar was all relevant, timely, professional and applicable to all industries and I want to thank you for empowering me in a new way with extra tools to take charge of my job search. I am still not positive that the oil and gas industry is for me but will continue to review your website to see if any of your placements may be a match and will highly recommend your session to others.  MANY thanks!
